1.Bacterial cause:

  • Enteric fever

2.Viral causes

  • hepatitis
  • infectious mono-nucleosis
  • cytomegalo viral infection

3.protozoal causes

  • malaria
  • kala-azar

B. Haematological disorder

1.haemoglobinopathes
2.autoimmuno haemolytic anaemia
3.megaloblastic anaemia
4.myeloproliferative disorders:

  • CML
  • PRV
  • Primary thrombocythaemia
  • myelofibrosis

5.others leukemia
6.lymphoma

C. congestive causes

  1. cirrhosis of liver
  2. CCF

D. Rheumatological disease

  1. rheumatoid arthritis
  2. SLE

E. Others

  1. hyperthyroidism
  2. amyloidosis
  3. sarcoidosis

  1. Chronic malaria
  2. Kala azar
  3. CML
  4. Myelofibrosis
  5. Thalassaemia major
  6. Splenic lymphoma

Causes of just palpable spleen

  1. Enteric fever

  3. Any causes of initial stage of splenomegaly

Causes of tender splenomegaly

  1. Splenic infraction
  2. Splenic abscess
  3. Trauma

Causes of jaundice with splenomegaly

  1. Acute viral hepatitis
