Indications and Technique of the Infraorbital Nerve Block

a) Multiple extractions of the tooth
b) Cleft lip
c) Any surgery of upper lip
d) Any surgery of Anterior wall of the maxilla
e) Cald wel luc operation
f) Any cyst or benign tumour in anterior wall of the maxilla

Technique / Procedure:
1. Identify the anatomical landmarks:

  • Supraorbital notch
  • Infraorbital notch
  • At front gaze pupil
  • In between premolars

2. Before inserting needle, placing index finger over infra orbital rim at the level of infra orbital foramen.
3. With the help of the thumb the upper cheek will be retracted
4. Then along the premolars, pushing about .5-1 cm of needle within the gum. Slightly oblique towards infra orbital foramen & pushing .5 mL of L.A.
5. Wait for 3 minutes for the signs of anesthesia: tinnitus, tingling
