What are cyst : definition and classification

Cyst:
Cyst may be defined as a pathological fluid/semi-filled/gaseous filled cavity which is lined by epithelium.

Classification:
1. Odontogenic cyst:

a. Inflammatory:
• Radicular cyst
• Periodontal cyst

b. Developmental:
• Dentigerous cyst
• Odontogenic keratocyst
• Eruption cyst

2. Non-odontogenic cyst:

a. Fissural cyst:
• Median alveolar cyst
• Median palatine cyst
• Median mandibular cyst

b. Globulomaxillary cyst

c. Naso-palatine cyst

d. Naso-labial cyst

3. Pseudocyst:

a. Simple bone cyst:
• Traumatic cyst
• Solitary cyst
• Hemorrhagic cyst

b. Aneurysmal bone cyst
